Hi, I am Paola, I joined the team here at Medivet 24 Hour Hendon in August 2024. In the last four years I have been working in the south of England in a hospital near Southampton. I decided I would become a vet at the age of 8, when I started to pick up stray cats and dogs I found in the streets and take the home. After agricultural college, I studied Veterinary Medicine at the University of Bologna, in Italy, where I graduated in 1996. I found a job straightaway in the Bologna surgery Giardini Margherita, where I had been practising as a student. The clinic eventually expanded into a hospital and I kept on working there for the following 24 years dealing with emergencies and anaesthesia. Over the years I developed an interest in neurology and in 2005 I obtained a Neurology Postgraduate Certificate. After a work experience at the Animal Trust Hospital in Newmarket I realized I would have like to work in the UK and here I am! In my free time I like hiking with my family and my Labrador and travelling to blue sky countries. I am quite sociable and go out often with my friends. When I want to relax I play classical guitar.

- you keep sending me emails saying I can book online but the service is always broken and I have to call. it is frustrating so I will not use that any more even if you fix it. I am sure others feel the same.
- the vet I saw was amazing -- she really cared for my cat, answered my questions and went the extra mile to run up and down the stairs again to give me medication. 10 stars for her!
- but will I see her again? who knows? I see a different vet each time with variable skill level. The care of my animal has not been without problems caused by mistake/inexperience/rushing.

We had to put our wonderful dog, Sammy, down after 13 years. It was so hard and painful for the family. We went to the Hendon branch and we got there so late because of traffic, yet they still saw us and they were so kind and they didn't rush us even though they had a room full of people. We just wanted to say a big thank you for being so kind and supportive. You made the awful, sad experience bearable. And thank you for the pictures of his paws print we can keep always. Thank you you were all so wonderful.

We had our lovely Persian cat pass away here a few months ago and we really did feel the vet at the time did their best for her. Recently, our other younger Persian was very unwell and they just fobbed us off telling us she was “improving” and “stable” as she increasingly got worse. She was hospitalised for a couple of nights but we were pressured to bring her home without the scan she needed to diagnose why she had lost use of her back legs because the imaging vet was off sick. We brought her back for the scan appt days later. The receptionist talked about being understaffed in front of me, slagging off the missing staff to other colleagues and talking about how they “needed to still get rid off this one” while nodding vaguely toward me but still made me wait another 30 mins for a nurse to come actually tell us to go home. Our girl with neurological issues was in a carrier for over 2.5 hours in total and I spent £70 in Ubers there and back for the failed appt. Thankfully our much more caring local Medivet got her into the royal college after she deteriorated further very quickly that day and her severe infection of the spine that had spread significantly while being fobbed off for a week will require at least 6 months of heavy antibiotic treatment and we do not know if she will fully recover. Please do not be fobbed off if these staff gaslight you and tell you your vulnerable pet is “improving” or “stable” when you can see them getting worse.

The actual vets were great they took care of my cat well- there was a d-o-g smell when I entered tho which probably didn’t ease my cat. Would recommend solely based on how professional the vet was but if I was nit picking would say the receptionists could be a little nicer- as you can imagine it’s already nerve wrecking coming to the vet. Understand they were stressed but could feel their stressed energy from when I entered.

I appreciate the fact that Medivet Hendon does not rush to make unnecessary appointments. The reception staff are trained to ask questions to ascertain whether or not you need to bring your pet. If you need an appointment, they will strive to find the first available. Upon arrival, they are friendly and accommodating. The vets are efficient and reliable. It's always wise to establish a relationship with the vet so they inform you before an procedures. of what they see as the best step. I like the Hendon practice as it has extensive diagnostic equipment, overnight wards with intensive care facilities, and always has several vets on duty, including senior practitioners for second opinions or assistance. There is parking available, and it's walking distance from the bus stop. Slightly longer from the underground but accessible by a short bus ride, so it's very accessible. The reception area is large and comfortable. If you want the best treatment in the north west area of London, don't hesitate to try Medivet Hendon. The vets are willing to write prescriptions for online medications. I don't think it's especially costly, but all private veterinary medicine seems costly. No disrespect to small practices, but Medivet Hendon has given me the best treatment and long term satisfaction and I have no complaints other than the fact that Medivet Hendon does not participate in the Cats Protection subsidised neutering programme. Other branches do, eg Medivet Harrow. With the overwhelming number of unwanted kittens being born and huge cost involved in neutering pets, especially female cats, I wish they would participate. All my cats are neutered, but for many people this is a huge expense which they keep putting off until it's too late, so I would ask Medivet Hendon to please consider offering subsidised spay and neuter for cats, even if it's limited to a few per month. Any would make a difference and prevent the disturbing number of unwanted kittens being born, abandoned or condemned to a life in a shelter.

I rang for advice because my cat's eye was closed. She was squinting, and I was worried she may have had a scratch to the cornea. The receptionist Mannon (sorry I don't know how to spell it) was extremely helpful, efficient and friendly. She asked many pertinent questions before leaping to make an appointment, which I appreciated as private vets' costs are usually relatively high. She said it was possible to wait 24 hours if my cat was not pawing her eye, or if it was not discharging much liquid. They did not have a free appointment on Monday, so I took her advice and made a booking for the next day. She sounded very experienced and knowledgeable and as first contact, this is what the client needs. The vet I saw, Francisco, examined my pet's eye with a scope and fluid introduced to ascertain if there was any damage to the cornea. He said it was conjunctivitis and advised me to get some eye ointment. He was efficient, friendly and considerate. I very much appreciated his advice about how to get prescription and non prescription medicine.
I left, fully reassured that there was no damage to my cat's eye, and equipped with advice on how to proceed. I use Medivet Hendon because it has diagnostic equipment and several vets on duty so a second opinion can be sought. The receptionists are always helpful and pleasant, eg Leo, Chloe and others.
