Hi, I am Paola, I joined the team here at Medivet 24 Hour Hendon in August 2024. In the last four years I have been working in the south of England in a hospital near Southampton. I decided I would become a vet at the age of 8, when I started to pick up stray cats and dogs I found in the streets and take the home. After agricultural college, I studied Veterinary Medicine at the University of Bologna, in Italy, where I graduated in 1996. I found a job straightaway in the Bologna surgery Giardini Margherita, where I had been practising as a student. The clinic eventually expanded into a hospital and I kept on working there for the following 24 years dealing with emergencies and anaesthesia. Over the years I developed an interest in neurology and in 2005 I obtained a Neurology Postgraduate Certificate. After a work experience at the Animal Trust Hospital in Newmarket I realized I would have like to work in the UK and here I am! In my free time I like hiking with my family and my Labrador and travelling to blue sky countries. I am quite sociable and go out often with my friends. When I want to relax I play classical guitar.

My biggest passion is Emergency Medicine and Critical Care which I hold two certificates in. I stepped down from the Head Nurse role to pursue my passion for Critical Patient Care and now I am Ward Manager and look after all the inpatients which is never a dull day. Even though I have just qualified, I love learning so jumped straight into a certificate of feline nursing. You can find me in the hospital mainly in cat ward or ICU advocating for feline welfare and monitoring intensive care patients. But I also love to switch it up and do theatre shifts to keep up with my skills. I had to take my cat Mia to Hendon for a CT scan and rhinoscopy and from the moment I stepped into the building I was treated with respect, warmth and empathy by all the staff. After the procedures had taken place it transpired that there was no getting better from the diagnosed condition and so I felt it best to put Mia to sleep to end her suffering and went to collect her that evening to have her sent for cremation. All I can say is that whoever looked after her after she had passed is a magician!! You made her look like she was still alive and like she was enjoying a restful sleep and I was astounded. You will never know how thankful I am to the whole team for allowing my last moments with her to be this memory, no wonder your hospital is one of the best in london with one of the best teams. The vet we saw was fantastic and incredibly helpful and reassuring.
However, the interior is not comfortable and calm. Both we and our dog would have appreciated a more comfortable wait in an interior environment that is designed to be calming (mostly for animals) - especially given that typically at the weekend there is a wait. I’m not talking about expensive fit out, just some thought about lighting, seating, acoustics.

Avoid this company like the plague. They are a bunch of dishonest fraudsters who only cere about making money and ripping off their clients at any given opportunity. We were clients of Medivet for a number of years and we always felt they would increase prices constantly without any explanation and charge us for things that weren’t necessary. The final straw was when our dog required dental treatment which we were covered for in our insurance policy. Before going ahead we were told by Medivet that this procedure would be approved and we could proceed. We had this in writing from Medivet and via numerous voicemails. We went ahead with the procedure (which we couldn’t afford to pay for ourselves) with the guarantee that they had give us, that insurance would pay, only to be told post surgery that it in fact wouldn’t be covered by insurance and we were now left with the bill. After challenging them on numerous points we realised that they had lied to us and deliberately misled us. Post surgery Medivet told us that the claim and been rejected by the insurance company only to be told by the Insurance company that they hadn’t even assessed the claim yet let alone rejected it.

I honestly can’t thank the team at Hendon practice enough for what they did for my cat, Boba. Yesterday, Boba suddenly became very unwell, and I was completely panicked and in tears. The surgeon, Dominika, was so understanding and kind. She truly listened to my situation and tried everything she could to help without immediately suggesting/pushing the most expensive tests. Thanks to her thoughtful and experienced approach, she quickly realised that Boba’s condition was an emergency and she helped arrange everything so efficiently and with so much care. Everyone involved showed such genuine compassion and dedication. They truly went above and beyond to help Boba and to support me through such a stressful and panic time. It’s clear they truly love animals and care deeply about their patients and owners. Because of their kindness and professionalism, Boba is alive and recovering today. I’ll never forget the care and warmth they showed us. Special thanks to Sarah and all the nurses as well, you were all amazing. I couldn’t recommend this clinic more highly.
