How to join the cat healthcare plan

Joining is straightforward. Here's how it works:

You can call, drop in, or book an appointment online.

This makes sure the plan is set up correctly for your cat.

Fixed amount, same day each month, no surprises.

Vaccinations, health checks, and parasite treatment are all arranged directly through your clinic.

Your local team sends reminders when appointments are due, so you don't have to hold it all in your head.

Kitten healthcare plan: Your cat's first year

Kittens can join the cat health plan as soon as their vaccination course starts. The whole first year is covered, including the primary vaccination course (two injections, typically given three to four weeks apart), first flea, tick, and worm treatments, microchipping if your kitten hasn't already been chipped, and health, weight, and development checks as they grow. Appointment reminders mean nothing slips through the gaps.

After year one, the plan carries straight on with annual boosters and the six-monthly health checks. It's worth chatting to your local Medivet clinic as soon as you bring your kitten home. They can set up the vaccination schedule and the plan in one go and give you any extra advice you might need.

Kitten advice

Adult and senior cats on the plan

The routine care doesn't slow down once your cat's past the kitten phase. Annual boosters keep their protection up to date. Six-monthly health checks give a vet a proper look at your cat's weight, teeth, heart, and general condition twice a year. It's a good way to spot changes before they become bigger problems.

Indoor cats and outdoor cats have different needs when it comes to parasite protection and, in some cases, vaccinations. Your vet can recommend the right approach based on your cat's lifestyle. Microchipping is worthwhile for all cats, whatever their routine.

For cats on long-term prescription medication, the plan's medication savings can make a real difference.

Cat healthcare plan vs. pet insurance

The Medivet Healthcare Plan covers the routine preventive care your pet needs through the year: vaccinations, flea and worm treatments, health checks.

Pet insurance covers the unexpected illness, accidents, and injury. You pay a monthly premium to your insurer and submit a claim when your pet needs treatment for something unplanned.

A lot of owners choose to have both at the same time. The plan looks after your pets routine health. Insurance looks after the unexpected.  â€¨

Frequently Asked Questions

The plan includes annual vaccinations and boosters, two health checks per year, and year-round flea, tick, and worm treatment. Microchipping is included if your cat doesn't already have one. There are also savings on prescription food, dental care, and medication. Inclusions may vary slightly by clinic, so it's worth checking with your local Medivet team.

Yes. Kittens can join the cat health plan as soon as their vaccination course begins. The first year covers the primary vaccination course (two injections, typically given three to four weeks apart), first parasite treatments, microchipping, and health and development checks with a vet. After year one, the plan carries straight on with annual boosters and six-monthly checks. There's nothing to switch or re-enrol onto.

The monthly fee is £15.50. Prices are reviewed periodically, so your local Medivet clinic is the best place to confirm the current fee before you join. There are no additional charges for included services on top of your monthly payment.

The plan covers planned, routine preventive care. It doesn't cover treatment for illness, injuries, accidents, or conditions your cat had before joining. A pre-existing condition doesn't automatically prevent your cat from joining the plan, but it won't be covered. Your local Medivet team can talk you through what the plan includes for your cat specifically before you sign up.

Yes. Indoor cats still benefit from annual vaccinations, regular flea and worm treatment, and twice-yearly health checks. Some elements of parasite care may be adjusted based on your cat's lifestyle, but your vet can advise on what's right. Microchipping is also recommended for all cats, including those who stay indoors.

If a booster is overdue by a significant amount, your cat may need to restart part of their vaccination course to regain full protection. Your vet will advise on the best approach. The plan includes appointment reminders to help you stay on track and avoid any gaps.

The plan is registered to your chosen Medivet clinic. If you move or want to change practice, speak to your local Medivet team about your options. A minimum term applies to the plan. Your clinic team will explain the full terms, including the cancellation policy, before you sign up.

Yes. The plan covers cats at every life stage, including seniors. Six-monthly health checks are particularly useful as cats get older, giving your vet a regular opportunity to check weight, dental health, and any early signs of age-related change. For older cats on long-term medication, the plan's prescription savings can also make a real difference.

***A nose-to-tail health check is a routine veterinary exam for a pet that appears healthy. It helps catch problems early and monitor overall health. Health checks may be performed by a vet or a nurse. It is not intended as an examination for a pet with a health issue, be it a new or ongoing condition. This requires a consultation with a vet which is chargeable at our standard rate.

****10% off pet food only available on the dog and cat plans.
