I had to visit Medivet Kensington in an emergency situation with my tabby Ernie. They diagnosed him quickly with uncontrolled diabetes and also managed conflicting issues with his heart which we were previously unaware of. They were very communicative throughout his time there and the vets, vet nurses, receptionists and other staff couldn’t have been more caring and ultimately helped save him for which we are incredibly grateful. A special thanks to Dr Laura and Dr Anoushka for the consultations, Dr Jia and Dr Vera the ward vets, Dr Sarah who looked after him through the nights, the wonderful and caring student nurses Anna and Jenna who kept a close eye on him and a particular mention to Saga and Kate who managed my own nerves throughout. We recognise a mini miracle was performed and are so grateful for all the efforts!

We didn’t have a good experience with Medivet Camberwell’s emergency service. Our cat had a urine blockage, and when we rushed him there, the emergency vet didn’t think it was serious and couldn’t explain things clearly. We went home but kept a close eye on him. Two days later, when he was near death, we called again. They said to bring him in, but while we were already on the way, told us the nurse wasn’t available. Thankfully, they redirected us to the Kensington branch. It was a bit more expensive, but the emergency vet, Ruth, was incredibly professional and caring. She said our boy wouldn’t have survived if we’d waited any longer. She kept him in for a night or two, and he finally started to recover. For the follow-up, we went back to Camberwell since it’s closer, but the vet we saw during normal hours (different from before) also seemed inexperienced—especially compared to Ruth in Kensington. After this, I wouldn’t recommend Camberwell at all. If your cat has a serious emergency, in my opinion, Kensington’s emergency service—at least with Ruth—is the safer choice. I can’t speak for their daytime service, and hopefully you’ll never need the emergency one.

  • BOAS Surgery

BOAS, brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome, is a cause of upper airway obstruction in brachycephalic breeds. The most commonly affected dogs tend to be the smaller short-nose breeds, such as Pugs, French Bulldogs, English Bulldogs and Boston Terriers. Signs to look out for include exercise intolerance, gagging and loud noisy breathing. BOAS surgery is routinely performed at Medivet Kensington by our surgeon, VK and aided by nurses who have undertaken additional training in anaesthesia.

Book an appointment with any of the vets to discuss whether your dog would benefit from the procedure.

  • Laparoscopic neutering

Laparoscopic neutering (key hole spay) involves making 2 small incisions to remove the ovaries. There are many studies showing significantly improved recovery times for dogs, with up to 65% less post operative pain. Peter and Tom routinely perform this surgery on Wednesday, Thursdays and Fridays at the Kensington practice.

  • Nutrition Consult
