Partner

Simon graduated from the University of Bristol in 2013 and has been practising at Medivet 24 Hour Shrewsbury since then, working initially for independent owners and then Medivet, becoming a Partner in 2017. Simon has completed the CertAVP and the BSAVA certificate in Small Animal Surgery (the latter with distinction). Simon is experienced in both orthopaedics and soft tissue surgery, continually striving to develop and evolve his skill set. Particular interests include surgery for canine cruciate disease, Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome and fracture repairs, although he enjoys all aspects of general practice. In his spare time, he most enjoys days off with his wife and young son, also being kept busy with multiple pets both inside and outside the house! He still finds some time to let off steam in the gym although is much less of a regular than in his university days!

I qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in 2007. Since graduating I have continued my education and training, mainly in medicine. I have post graduate certificates in small animal medicine, feline practice and I am also an RCVS recognised advanced practitioner in emergency and critical care. Outside of work I spend a lot of time with my young bouncy Labrador and caring for my two cats. I also enjoy tropical fish keeping and gardening.

I have been working as an out of hours Veterinary Surgeon at Medivet 24 Hour Shrewsbury since 2017. Out of work I enjoy restoring steam engines and looking after my menagerie of animals ranging from Shire horses to Capybaras!

I graduated in 2020 from Liverpool where I lived for eight years but sadly didn't pick up the accent. I enjoy surgery and consulting but mostly getting to know your gorgeous pets. I have two Labradors and one Bedlington whippet, and my breed of choice is anything pencil nosed! I once neutered one of Atomic Kittens cats. When I'm not in blue scrubs I like playing netball, eating croissants, and drinking rosé with friends.

I have been one of the Registered Veterinary Nurses (RVN) here at Medivet 24 Hour Shrewsbury since February 2025. I have worked in the industry for nearly four years now, starting as a Veterinary Care Assistant, then becoming an apprentice Student Nurse and finally qualified in July 2024. Before I started in the industry I used to work and live in the mountains in Switzerland for eight years as a ski instructor, but my love of animals brought me back to the UK to pursue this career. Outside of work, I have lots of hobbies, including mountain biking, paddleboarding, skiing, snowboarding, hiking, and rock climbing.

I am a newly qualified Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN), I graduated from Harper Adam’s University I started my job at Medivet 24 Shrewsbury, which felt like the perfect practice to start my new career after doing my training here and learning all I know. I enjoy the wide range of conditions and procedures we see and care for here, a portion of which aren’t seen often in other practices. I particularly enjoy caring for our spinal patients due to the high dependency type care required and seeing improvement day to day. I would like to experience more time in practice before picking an area to specialise and study further but I intend to obtain a CPR certificate soon which I am looking forward to. Out of work I enjoy walking and playing with my two dachshund mixes, Bazil and Skye, and days out with my nieces.

I'm officially the 'crazy cat lady' at Medivet 24 Shrewsbury and currently have 12 cats. All are rescues or strays that I've taken in over the years, and each one is a cherished member of the family. For enjoyment I like to attend concerts with my husband and family, supporting my husband's band, and to relax I like nothing more than reading or crocheting my latest project.

My girl needed an urgent appointment on Boxing Day. An appointment was made for 45 mins after I called. We were seen late but it was understandable as there was only one vet on duty and having to deal with an emergency. Nevertheless, the vet (Mackenzie) took time to gain a proper history and to examine my precious girl, was methodical and thoughtful, carefully considered treatment options and contraindications, discussed her rationale for each investigation (none of which were rushed into, or seemed like overkill), and was kind and calm throughout. This was all in between seeing other patients, all of whom were precious to their own people. I really appreciated her care.

Can understand that it was Christmas holidays but when you have a sick pet it was difficult to wait 50 minutes past appointment time to be seen by the vet, who was wonderful, and was given appropriate medication and useful advice.

From making a first telephone call to taking Buddy who was admitted overnight for fluid support after a being so poorly, I found all the staff very helpful. Helen one of the vets was very helpful and explained the treatment and why it was neccessary. I was kept updated throughout the day and when we collected Buddy the following night saw an emergency come in and was impressed with the way it was dealt with, whilst also dealing with the distraught owners in a caring way. I felt reassured knowing that I could call anytime over the Christmas holiday and know that there would be help and advice should I need it.
