As an orthopaedic surgeon I qualified as a vet in 2001 and joined the Easthampstead practice. I then moved to Wokingham in 2018 alongside Hayley Fordyce. I own two cats called Nightingale and Sooty, who were left outside the Easthampstead practice as kittens, as well as a tortoise called Mo. I met my wife at choir practice; my children now spend their time singing in the same choir.

I qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in 2009, then cycled the famous Lands' End to John O’Groats route to raise funds for a volunteering trip to the Indian animal charity TOLFA. I then spent my first year in a Lincolnshire mixed practice, before switching to solely small animal work in Suffolk for 3 years. I then led a small practice in Bracknell for 6 years where I achieved my Certificate in Small Animal Medicine. I am now Branch Partner and Lead Vet for Medivet’s busy 24-hour Wokingham hospital, growing a team of skilled colleagues, forging trusting relationships with clients, and developing an advanced healthcare service for their pets. I enjoy exploring the British countryside with my wife and 2 daughters, and have Lily the Pets As Therapy Springador, Sprout the cat and Twix the guinea pig.

I am originally from Tenerife, Spain, where I qualified as a vet in 2019. Upon completing my studies, I moved to the UK, where I have been passionately working in small animal medicine and surgery. My greatest enjoyment comes from performing laparoscopic bitch spays, which led me to pursue and successfully complete a postgraduate certificate in Endoscopy and Endosurgery in 2024. At home, I have two beloved tabby cats, Rabito and Pocoyo, who bring so much joy to my life. Living in the UK has been a wonderful experience, and I always make time to explore its beautiful places alongside my partner.

I had a deeply distressing experience with this Vet Clinic. My cat was neglected while in their care — left in a soiled state for over 36 hours, which they then denied. There was no transparency around costs, despite me asking multiple times. I simply wanted a breakdown of cost by cost. I was charged £150 for a five-minute emergency consultation and then quoted £1,000 without a clear explanation of what that covered. Throughout the process, I felt that their priority was not my pet’s wellbeing, but whether I could afford treatment. There was a distinct lack of compassion, communication, and accountability. I also questioned the honesty of the updates I received, many of which downplayed my concerns and included phrases like “owner happy” — which could not be further from the truth. This experience has left me devastated and disillusioned. I expected care and transparency; instead, I was met with defensiveness and neglect. I was told my cat likely had pancreatitis but after discharge I discovered that she simply had a stomach upset - gastritis. After going through their complaints process, which was most unsatisfactory, I decided it was not worth it. Despite me having seen her ons for her stay and without being provided a full cost breakdown I cannot fathom how a cat with gastritis could cost £1000. She previously lost her tail and had surgery at this cost, with boarding, for a comparison! The Kynoch vets used to be amazing but Medivet? Hell no. I will be registering my pets at a different vets going forward. But to current patients, beware and make sure you have insurance or a healthy wallet, otherwise the care your pet gets may be much less than caring. I will add a picture of the state my cat was returned to me. I had withheld this from the clinic pending their investigation, just incase they denied accountability but I am now willing to share it. This picture depicts my cat covered in wet faeces. That is not simply wet fur, beneath she is also covered in faeces. She was recorded as not opening her bowels or having sickness for her entire boarding period, but upon admittance she had had an accident in her carrier. (She did not have an accident on route home). My cat was left like this for what I can only assume with the facts available to me, for 36 hours. And a quick wipe down was attempted literally just prior to us collecting her. She did not deserve this.

I visited this out-of-hours practice with a rat, who had a small cut that wouldn’t stop oozing. Having experienced similar wounds before, both of which were safely and effectively treated with minor care such as clipping, cleaning, and glueing at the Crowthorne and Lower Earley branches, I expected similar, positive experiences. Arriving at Medivet Wokingham, I was quoted approximately £1,300 for my rat to be admitted, sedated, and monitored for the remainder of the day. This quote was given prior to any proper assessment of the wound, and without attempting even basic cleaning or visualisation of the area. I expressed concern about the proposed approach, particularly given the low-risk, low-cost nature of treatment in previous cases (£67 and £27 respectively). I also questioned whether the suggested plan was truly in the best interest of my pet and flagged the risks associated with sedating small animals, something any experienced vet should take seriously. To provide further context, I contacted Medivet Wokingham approximately a year ago regarding another pet who was extremely unwell out of hours. At the time, I was advised that the only service Medivet Wokingham could provide was euthanasia. I instead took my pet to another out-of-hours practice, where he was admitted, sedated, x-rayed, and monitored on oxygen overnight. That treatment, far more comprehensive and life-saving than needed in this instance, cost less than £500 in comparison. He went on to make a full recovery and lived a long and happy life. Though based on that experience I would not use Wokingham as a first choice, as out of hours cover was needed in this instance, I had hoped that this practice would at least be able to provide basic wound care. However, my recent visit has confirmed that even that is beyond what I can expect. I now have no trust in this particular vet’s service to provide appropriate care or advice. While the vet eventually agreed to consider glueing the wound, they appeared uncomfortable handling my pet. Thankfully, a kind and highly competent nurse was able to do this quickly and without difficulty, commenting on his calm demeanour. The wound has since healed with no complications and no need for further intervention. My concern lies not only in the excessive and disproportionate cost proposed for basic wound care, but in the overall approach to small animal treatment. This experience has left me with serious reservations about the clinical judgment, transparency, and ethical considerations involved in Medivet Wokingham’s out-of-hours services. I sincerely hope other owners have not felt compelled to go ahead with unnecessary procedures that may have caused more harm than good. I wish to emphasise that I have always had positive experiences with the staff at the Crowthorne and Lower Earley branches. My feedback above relates solely to the Wokingham out-of-hours service and is not intended to reflect negatively on the excellent care and professionalism I have consistently received at those other locations.

My friend recently had a traumatic experience with Medivet that I feel people should be aware of. Her cat had a serious injury and needed emergency surgery an already emotional and stressful situation. Despite having pet insurance, she was told she couldn’t leave the vet without paying the full surgery fee upfront. She didn’t have the money at the time because, like many pet owners, she assumed the insurance would cover it directly. She asked about the process beforehand but wasn’t given clear or helpful information. Instead of being supported, she was made to feel like she had done something wrong. This was a heartbreaking and distressing experience made even worse by Medivet’s lack of empathy and poor communication. Emergency care should be about helping both animals and their owners not adding to their stress. We expected better.

I want to thank all the team who showed such kindness to me and my partner when our dear cat Marley had to be put to sleep after becoming poorly quite suddenly. He was 15 and has left a big hole in our family. He is sadly missed. And the kindness of the vet at the time, and receiving a lovely heartfelt card later, was so appreciated. Thank you all for your kindness.
