Ring-Bearing Ferrets Star in Animal-loving Couple’s Wedding
A Student Veterinary Nurse working at Medivet recently enjoyed a dream wedding, with her two treasured pet ferrets accompanying her and fiancé Jon down the aisle.
Animal-loving Bride Amie Clark-Sutton of Medivet 24 Hour Enfield explains: “To be honest, the decision to have the pair - Binks and Littlefoot - as ring bearers was a no brainer for us and came even before finding a venue. I had just two stipulations for the venue: a) that it had an outdoor ceremony area (as I have always wanted to get married outside); and b) that it was animal-friendly so the ferrets could be a part of our big day. Unfortunately, the outdoor ceremony was rained off on the day but at least the boys brought the rings down the aisle.”
In the event, the ferrets didn’t disappoint. Their grand entrance to the couple’s ceremony went perfectly. Impeccably dressed for the occasion in little tuxedo harnesses, the pair carried the couple’s rings in little bags.
Our day just wouldn’t have been right without our boys.
Amie continues: “Because Binks is my particularly special baby - I’ve had him since before I met my partner - we made arrangements for Jon’s Best Man to walk him down the aisle carrying my wedding ring because he knew it would mean so much to me.”
The two ferrets are a huge part of animal-loving Amie and husband Jon’s family. This extended family consists of rescue dog Kora - a Cane Corso; rescue cats - Fleur and Crowley; as well as new arrival - Adie, a four-month-old rescue ferret.
Binks is a five-and-a-half-year old rescue ferret and has been with Glebelands-based Amie since he was about two-years-old. Binks lived alone at first, as Amie had been advised that he tended to be bullied by other ferrets due to his gentle and laid-back nature. However, being a big fan of rescue animals, Amie jumped at the chance of providing Binks with some company after finding out that a ferret rescue centre was looking to rehome babies of a pregnant stray. And that's when Littlefoot arrived, who is now just over two years old. The pair have got along famously from the start, despite having very different characters.
Amie concluded: “Anyone who knows us both appreciates just how much our animals mean to us - they are our whole world. Just as most people wouldn’t consider their wedding without their children being involved, our day just wouldn’t have been right without our boys. To top it all off, they both behaved impeccably on our big day.”
