Meet our Partner, Sian Humphries

Ever since I graduated from Cambridge University 12 years ago, I have spent my time being a proud small animal vet. Dogs, cats, rabbits and hamsters alike, I'm happy to help any and all creatures great and small. The past few years I have dedicated my time to cats and am now a feline medicine certificate holder. I'm passionate about British wildlife and love nothing more than to turn my skills to an injured wild animal. More recently, I have been performing acupuncture treatments with great success, and will be leading the Medivet Beaminster team in Veterinary physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, and rehabilitation medicine. My own pets, Felicity the cat and Spud the dog, keep me busy. My biggest hobby is swimming, mainly pool based as I love amateur level racing competitions. I do also climb regularly, and I'm very excited about the crags that the Southwest has to offer.

Kirsty Padden-Barr

Practice Manager

Originally from Nottinghamshire Kirsty trained at a small animal practice and qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) in 2001. In 2002 she moved to a hospital grade practice, expanding her clinical skills and also providing a variety of nursing clinics including dental care, wound management and weight management. Here she passed her D32/33 Assessor exams and began teaching and assessing student Veterinary Nurses. In 2003 she worked as an Emergency RVN for Vets Now Ltd. based at the PDSA centre in Nottingham, caring for critical patients, enabling her to expand her clinical skills further. After meeting her future husband in France, Kirsty moved to Somerset in 2004 with her horse, Badger, and initially worked at a mixed practice as their Head Nurse and student assessor. She began working for the Medivet Beaminster branch in 2007, her main interests being student training, wound management (medical and surgical) for which she holds a BVNA/Lantra certificate in Wound Management, minor surgery, and dental surgery (especially dental radiography). In 2024 Kirsty progressed from her Head RVN role at the Beaminster branch, to Practice Manager and now enjoys working alongside and looking after the teams in both the Beaminster and Wool branches. Kirsty is still a Registered Veterinary Nurse and as such is required to remain up to date with her clinical skills; in addition to her daily work, she attends continued professional development (CPD) courses regularly. In her spare time Kirsty enjoys raising money for Greyhound & Whippet charities, walking her Whippet, ‘Mac Taylor’, family time, travelling, reading, going to the theatre, attending concerts and is an avid fan of Formula1.

You need to reduce the price of your medications and treatment given, the profits that Medivet makes and the cost price of drugs, the markup is ridiculous.

Even though no owner wants to take their pet to the vets, it’s always reassuring and a pleasure to see Sian and her team. Nothing is any problem, and anything that is needed is always explained in full. No question is silly either which is refreshing. All in all, as owners, we couldn’t be happier and would be very happy to recommend the Beaminster Practice.

  • Your vet in Beaminster

We are a warm, caring community practice based in Beaminster. We proudly offer a full range of veterinary services and excellent facilities.

Our facilities are all run by a team of highly qualified professionals dedicated to delivering exceptional patient and client care. We look forward to welcoming you and your pet.

  • Veterinary Physiotherapy

Veterinary physiotherapy is hugely important for regaining strength after surgeries, and restoring flexibility to joints in chronic diseases such as arthritis.  It incorporates pain relief techniques, helping to reduce our reliance on drugs..  All treatments are individualised but may contain thermotherapy, cryotherapy, massage, acupuncture, TENS, pulsed electromagnetic field device (PEMF), passive and active therapeutic exercises.

  • Dental X-ray

Only by x-raying a tooth can you fully understand it.  Problems below the gum line can easily otherwise missed, and possible complications arising from extractions can be prevented with knowledge of the full picture.

Practice Accreditations

*This includes all standard consultations and revisits. Gland expression, nail clipping, out-of-hours, weekend surcharges, referral and specialist appointments are charged separately.
