I've been really impressed with Medivet Leckhampton, since moving to Cheltenham a few years ago. Excellent and caring staff.
My only real critique is the parking situation - the road it's on is busy, and the vets have 2/3 spaces - which are almost always full, so it's a real headache trying to find somewhere to park. Not really sure what the solution is either.

The following has been sent to the practice:
To Medivet Leckhampton,
I am writing to submit a formal complaint regarding the treatment of my partner and I and our dog.
On 31.10.25, Friday, morning at roughly 10am my dog, Herbie, ate a sultana scone equivalent to the size of half a tennis ball. As per calculations using the recipe from the business (of which my partner is kitchen leader) the small scone contained an absolute maximum of ten raisins. It is not possible for it to have contained more.
At 11am, I found the empty bakery bag after returning from my walk and called Medivet Leckhampton due to living within close proximity. I got there at approximately 11.15am. We were seen to by Anna. Herbie was admitted as a day patient and I was provided with a broken down cost estimate. At 12.34pm I received a call to let me know that Herbie had vomited twenty four raisins. I do not know if these are whole raisins, pieces of raisins or small pieces of treats. During my morning walk with him that occurred after he ate raisins and before we took him to the vet he had small, broken up pieces of Lily’s Kitchen Training Treats which are dark brown and broken up to the size of raisins - perhaps these were counted? At this time, the vet remembered that she could call Poison Control.
At 17.09pm, I received a call from Medivet Leckhampton asking if I was able to pick up Herbie at 6.30pm. His pick-up was confirmed.
We arrived at 6.25pm. At 6.35pm, we were seen by the vet who informed us that we had two options to move forward. One: a three night hospitalisation with Medivet Woodstock for approximately £2,000. Two: overnight observation for the whole weekend at Vet Now which would be more costly as it is an emergency vet operation. We asked if it was possible to take him home and treat him at home and were told firmly and explicitly “No, that is not an option.”
We were left alone to discuss the options. Neither of us are able to drive, so option one was not possible. Herbie was brought to us extremely visibly stressed; it is important to note at this time that the vet did not touch Herbie once and seemed visibly uncomfortable by his presence. He was panting hard and drooling all over the floor; we did not feel comfortable leaving him overnight anywhere in this state. We decided to take him to the emergency vet, the vet went to call them. We found out that she had, prior to us arriving and informing us of the options, phoned Medivet Woodstock and prepared them to expect us. As the vet was leaving the room, I remembered we did not know the outcome of his blood tests so I asked if they were okay, she responded that they were. (We later found out that these were baseline blood tests - this was not explained to us.) Fifteen minutes later, I poked my head out the door after hearing lots of laughter and she then called the emergency vet. Five minutes later, she came back in with a bag of medicine.
We were then informed taking him home was an option. I asked why she said “no” before and she insisted she did not say that. She said that as she is foreign perhaps there was a misunderstanding despite her being extremely clear we had two options and two options only. At this point, we had been in the practice for 45 minutes and had been expecting to pick up Herbie as we were told on the phone. Frustrated, we asked if we could pay for everything and leave the practice and were not allowed to. After a lot of back of forth of us asking if we could pay, leave, and take him to the emergency vet for a second opinion she revealed that the emergency vet was expecting us and she had a form to help with the transition - I do not understand why this was withheld for so long despite us literally asking if we could leave and take him there. The form was not filled out correctly by her, she missed her details on it.
I paid £841.94 and we left at around 19.30. After stepping outside, Herbie urinated for over a minute. I went back in and asked if he had been given chances to urinate as he had just urinated for over a minute, the receptionist responded with along the lines of: “He’s been on fluids, that’s what happens.” The vet then said he had been taken outside for one “walk” and urinated once. In the eight hours he was in Medivet care, on fluids, we were told he was given one opportunity to urinate. This is unacceptable.
At the emergency vet, they were surprised to see us as Medivet Leckhampton had not called or emailed them back to let them know we were on our way. It took us an hour to walk there as there were no dog-friendly taxis available on Halloween / Friday night. They then further informed us that the fluids he had been on were too high and an overnight stay was not necessary at all for the quantity of raisins actually consumed and vomited within the two hour time frame.
I was not provided with an invoice from Medivet Leckhampton for my £841.94 payment until 9.34am this morning (1.11.25) after I requested it. I was also not informed of the overall care provided for my dog nor the conditions - for example I do not know if he was crated or with other dogs or where he was taken for his “walk”. I do not know if anyone even interacted with him, we did not witness any friendly behaviour from any staff towards Herbie. We were not informed of medical care beyond the clinic, for example how to administer the charcoal or if he was even allowed food or water. We were also spoken to extremely condescendingly from the beginning to the end of the day.
To conclude: our experience with Medivet Leckhampton has been extremely negative from staff conduct to communication and extends to the treatment of our dog that we trusted them to care for. As I said to the staff, I have autism and found the lack of clarity and miscommunication extremely stressful. This was a stressful situation that was met with no empathy or emotion. At the emergency vet, they were extremely reassuring and took the time to properly understand the situation and most importantly, were friendly and reassuring to my dog who was completely comfortable in that practice, as he usually is at the vets.
I would be very interested to know how the practice intends to learn from this event.
Regards,
Dylan Wyeth

Medivet Leckhampton are incredible. The kindness they have shown to our two dogs goes above and beyond. Our older rescue had trust issues due to previous neglect and abuse. Medivet have always been flexible and gentle, taken the time our boy needed to make it as painless and stress free as possible. And when we had to say goodbye we were overwhelmed by the support and lengths the team went to for us. His end was beautiful, we will never be able to thank them enough. We are so grateful to the whole team as from the moment they answer the phone or welcome us on site I know everything is going to be ok and we are in good hands.
