Meet our Partner, Kevin Wood

After initially training, and working, as a pharmacist at King’s College Hospital, I returned to university to study Veterinary Medicine at Cambridge Vet School. I have been Partner at Medivet Leigh-on-Sea since November 2021 after working at another local practice for 11 years. I have been lucky enough to work with VetAid on animal projects throughout Kenya, and have extensively travelled through Uganda, working with both chimpanzees and gorillas. Away from work, I follow West Ham United Football Club and attend most games, which is why I look glum most Mondays.... I also enjoy skiing and travelling.

I have a huge interest in internal medicine and surgery, and I am looking forward to one day getting certified in either cardiology or soft tissue surgery. In my free time, I enjoy hiking and painting. Back home, I have 7 cats and 4 dogs. In my breaks, I enjoy cuddles with our practice cat, Rodney.

My name is Helen and I first became a Veterinary Nurse in 1995. I have been working at Downes Leigh since 2012 in which time I have worked my way up to becoming head nurse. I have a small zoo of animals at home including 3 dogs, one of which Vernon you may of seen around the practice as he comes to work with me, I also have a rag doll, a Devon Rex, 2 bearded dragons and a uromastyx. I absolutely adore hedgehogs and have a breeding pair living in my garden that I hand reared from only few weeks old, they have gone onto breed and produce 3 litters of their own which have all been successfully released back into the wild. In my spare time I enjoy paddle boarding and running.

I came to Medivet in December 2016. I started as a Patient Care Assistant, then became a Student Veterinary Nurse and qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in 2020. I enjoy many aspects of the job. I have an interest in surgical nursing and have started carrying out intradermal sutures. At home I have two cats I rescued from Pippa's Army. I also adopted two rabbits that were abandoned and handed in here at Downes Leigh. Outside of work, I enjoy going paddleboarding and socialising with friends and family.

I have been working at the practice as a Client Care Assistant since 2004. Over the years, I have had both cats and dogs. Now I get my cuddle fix from the many lovely pets that come into the Practice with their owners. I enjoy being outside and like nothing better than going on long walks and hiking holidays. I very much enjoy gardening and I have my little veggie patch that keeps me busy. My other love is reading and after a long day I like nothing better than to curl up on the sofa with a good book.

The staff from the reception to the vets themselves really are something special here. They are always so kind and caring and go above and beyond. Iris has the most amazing memory and takes the time to remember the little details about your family etc that makes you feel valued as a customer as well as her obvious love of animals. Highly recommend them.

Staff were very polite and friendly and show great care towards my lab Bella, the staff always do there best to fit us in at their earliest appointment. Can't fault any of the staff members there. We love Kevin, we've followed him from his previous place of work. The other vets are also great and offer a great service.

Nuno has looked after Tara our Tibetan Terrier since she was a puppy and she is now 2years old. Nuno is thorough and reassuring about Tara’s overall health and she loves to see him as he is so kind and approachable. All the team make a fuss of her (especially Lesley) and that makes our visit a pleasurable experience. Thank you to everyone! Gillian, Peter & Tara !

The vet who saw our dogs was charming, caring and attentive. She took time with our dogs and also to discuss with us their well being.
As always the staff in reception were friendly and helpful.
