Thea Patterson

Branch Partner and Veterinary Surgeon

I've been at the practice since 2014 and became branch partner in January 2019. I enjoy all aspects of being a vet and hold a post-graduate certificate in small animal medicine. I love meeting new people and their pets, as well as seeing all of the old favourites back for visits. In my spare time, I am normally out running, socialising, travelling or walking my naughty chihuahua, Mo.

Crawley's Story

Crawley came into us for a routine health check as part of the Medivet Healthcare Plan. Our vet Thea gave him a thorough check over and noticed that he had a lump on his left hind leg. Aspirates were taken for cytology which revealed that the lump was a mast cell tumour - a cancerous skin tumour. These tumours can also affect other areas of the body, including the spleen, liver and gastrointestinal tract, so staging firstly included a full blood count, and an abdominal ultrasound scan with samples of the liver and spleen taken. Fortunately, these came back all clear, so Crawley was given the go ahead for surgery.

Surgical excision of mast cell tumours is most successful where wide margins can be achieved. For this reason, Crawley was transferred to our Enfield hospital, where our experienced surgeon Dave was able to remove the lump. Due to the awkward location on the back of his leg, an ipsilateral caudal superficial epigastric axial pattern flap was required to close the wound. This involved removing a portion of tissue from the underside of his body and wrapping it round to the back leg to close the wound. A suction drain was placed to allow excess fluid from the surgical site to drain. Crawley recovered remarkably well from surgery.

His wound required a lot of maintenance including emptying the drain and cleaning the site daily. His family were very dedicated and committed to helping him heal successfully. He had lots of follow up checks with the nurses and vets and finally, after around 4 weeks - he was given the all clear. The histology report deemed that the cancer had been fully removed with adequate margins which was fantastic news. Crawley has been an absolute superstar and we are so pleased that we have been able to look after him.

5 stars , as always . Thea and her wonderful team saved our cats life several years ago, when she was very sick after going missing and dislocating her elbow. When she jumped and injured her titanium elbow last night, they fitted her in to an already full clinic, did emergency assessment, meds and treatment plan, even though it was a full clinic and half an hour after closing time. Cannot recommend highly enough Kind , compassionate and and highly skilled team. Thanks so much

We love this practice, and have been coming for years. All staff are caring, professional and take time to explain treatment/management options. Medivet are not the cheapest, but I’d rather pay more for the brilliant care & expertise of Thea and her team. Thank you from me, and Otis the very noisy Beagle!

This practice is fantastic. All of the staff are welcoming, compassionate and expert in what they do. They take as much care of humans as they do the animals. I wouldn’t go anywhere else.

When Molly was neutered recently, the staff put my mind at ease as I was very nervous leaving her. Everything went well and I was kept informed. I can’t praise the staff enough. I would highly recommend Medivet to friends and family.

Calming empathy shown to my dog, River with sound advice as to future care. Vet also took the time & trouble to fully explain the benefits and risks of a future potential treatment. Left feeling confident as to the care provided.
