We recently took our cat, Shelby, to Medivet in St. Ives and were really impressed with the level of care he received. Vet Maria and Ella were both incredibly thorough in their assessment, taking the time to explain everything clearly and make Shelby feel comfortable throughout. It’s reassuring to know he’s in such capable and caring hands. Highly recommend this team — they genuinely care about their patients and it shows.

We’ve had a terrible experience with Medivet and feel we need to warn other pet owners. Our dog had a castration and the whole thing was a nightmare. We were told it would be hours before he could come home, then called almost immediately to collect him because staff said they couldn’t settle him. He was clearly in pain and had to go back a few hours later. A nurse had already told us over the phone that the extra pain relief wouldn’t be a charge, yet staff argued in front of us about whether we would be billed at all while he was being treated. They even had us restrain him ourselves in the prep area because they couldn’t manage him, which felt completely wrong. He should have been sedated enough not to be in that much distress, but clearly he wasn’t. They sold us an inflatable collar they insisted we take, promising we could return it if it didn’t work. It never worked and they’d thrown the box away, so we couldn’t return it. Our dog has a severe phobia of nail clipping after a previous visit for polycythemia where they hurt him putting in a cannula. Even their staff and groomers now can’t do it. We asked if his nails could be clipped while he was already under sedation for castration, and they charged us for it. I must say, they feels the epitome of ‘money grabbing’. They also failed to follow up about a shampoo they told us we had to email about because our dogs skin was reacting. One of the vets later admitted they “saw it and forgot to reply.” In the meantime his skin got much worse and we had to get more expensive medication. They also cancelled his three day post op check, knowing he was having a reaction to his stitches, then failed to re book it with us. We had to chase them for an appointment (funnily enough, we had already paid for this one…) The bill ended up being hundreds more than quoted. Medication was massively marked up, for example a cream costing £6 online was charged at £40. A side notes when we had our elderly cat put to sleep (under 5kg, 23 years old) a matter of months before, it cost £220. Other vets we contacted would have charged £100 or under. We’ve tried to raise all of this with Medivet. They’ve lied about dates in emails (we have proof) and are now threatening debt collectors and adding a 20% “processing fee.” We will continue to try and speak to the practice manager, but it felt right to leave a review. It’s clear that all they care about is money, not the wellbeing of the animals in their care, which is really concerning.

Have had my dog(s) with this vet for years, was quite happy, until recently. Since being taken over by an American style health provider, who is only interested in profit, they've gone down hill in my estimation. Before becoming medivet, I believe I would support the majority of the comments, in that they were kind and really wanted to help the pets and the owners. Now they are only focused on one thing. Not that the vets or nurses are nasty people, just their policies make them uncaring when it comes time to actually helping! My recent experience, especially with the supposed credit controller 'James' was so far from satisfactory it's unbelievable. I struggled to pay for a bill, telling the vets this in advance, and no one was willing or able to make a payment plan or reduce fees, or make any decision beyond 'can't do that!' So when I set my own payment plan up (please note I was willing to pay), they threatened to get a debt recovery organisation in, which would have added to my now massive debt. I have since registered and taken my business to another vets, who I discover are easily a 3rd of the price which medi vet. Just be careful what you sign up for!!
