Manuel Medeiros

Branch Partner and Veterinary Surgeon

I qualified as a Veterinary Surgeon in 2016 at the University of Lisbon and since then I’ve worked in very busy 24-hour hospitals before settling here in Welwyn Garden City. I love solving medical puzzles and have a special interest in Internal Medicine, Surgery, Emergency and Critical Care, and Ultrasound. I became Branch Partner here because this practice means a lot to me. I want to grow a place where pets and their owners feel supported and cared for, with a true family vet you can rely on throughout your pet’s whole life. Outside of work, I love travelling and spending time with my family and friends. If I’m not working, I’m probably out walking my old boy Gaspar, my Golden Retriever. He’s 13 now, a little slower these days, but he still brings so much joy and reminds me every day why I love what I do.

It was my childhood dream to become a vet and I graduated from the Royal Vet College in 2011. I have been working for Medivet since 2016 and I am excited to have joined the team at Welwyn Garden City. I'm particularly interested in small animal medicine but getting to know my clients and their pets is the best part of my job. Outside of work I am kept busy looking after my young son and caring for my cat, Flossie.

I started working at Medivet in April 2023 as I really love working with animals and had previously worked with horses for most of my life. I am currently working towards the training to become a student vet nurse. I am really looking forward to learning new things and also working towards something different. I currently have two dogs Lily and Oreo who I love walking however I am hoping to get another horse in the near future.

Excellent service all round. The vet took their time and we didn't feel rushed, even though they were running a little late. We felt listened to and felt that we were well cared for.

Overall is good, the price is nice and we got what we came for, but in general I don’t think we will be coming back.
The clinic looks a bit old and the examine room we went to was very tiny. We moved from the Netherlands, and the vet didn’t seem to know what needs to be done in my cat’s certificate/travel passport until we pointed out to the pages/vaccines needed to be reviewed and asked to fill those pages in and put the signature. Which is okay, of course, considering we are the ones who came with foreign documents but it would be preferable if the vet took time to examine the past of our cat a bit more and looked into all the pages which show history and vaccines of the cat.
He was examined briefly and when we asked for the rabies vaccine as we travel often, we were told that this is possible of course, then the vet went to get the chip reader, and came back with the news saying that her colleague mentioned that the booster vaccine and rabies one need to be done two weeks apart. This is understandable and we are more than happy to wait, but as a worried mom of my pet I sort of thought if another colleague wouldn’t mention it, the vet would do the vaccine anyway and it may or may have not caused the reaction.
As mentioned, overall is all good and I’m sure the doctors are experienced, but I sort of picked up on those little things and decided to look into another vet just to feel more reassured that my pet is in a good hands/clinic.

For a better team
For my puppy, the last year has been great, especially that my dog seems to eat things he shouldn’t, he was very well cared for, and all the staff are fantastic

If I could of put 10 stars, I would have! From the moment you join this vet, they want to help in any way with your pet! They are always at hand for any worries I have regarding my girl (she's a malinois and an absolute accident prone nutter🤦‍♀️) I've even walked into this place with no appointment because something happened over the weekend and I wanted to check my girl was OK! Even when they take on temp staff whilst their main staff are on holiday, they are all so fantastic! The girls at reception are so helpful and kind and everyone cares about the wellbeing of there pet:-) highly recommended this vet!!
