Really made my chinchilla feel relaxed and at ease.

Due to the lack of emergency appointments at Medivet Bedworth, I brought Kai to the Leamington branch. During the consultation with Catrin Stegmann, I was asked if his leptospirosis vaccinations were up to date — they were not. Blood tests were conducted, which showed an abnormal white blood cell count and three concerning liver markers, two of which were only just outside the upper reference limits. Based on this, I was informed that Kai had a leptospirosis infection. Despite his condition, I was told an abdominal scan would not be performed due to his reactive nature. Kai was prescribed three antibiotics, Metacam, Denamarin, and Lactulose. We followed the treatment plan as instructed, and he showed signs of improvement overnight. However, I began to question the leptospirosis diagnosis, especially as our five other dogs were completely unaffected. It was suggested to me that Kai may have ingested something harmful, which raised the possibility that he had swallowed part of a toy. With this concern in mind, I returned to Leamington. A different vet examined him, noted that his eyes were clear, and tested a urine sample I had brought, which appeared normal. Over the following week, Kai ate very little, continued to lose weight, and became increasingly weak. Although he remained briefly playful, his overall condition deteriorated. At a subsequent appointment in Bedworth, I was advised to discontinue the antibiotics as the diagnosis was no longer believed to be leptospirosis. I was told an abdominal scan should now be considered, and he was given a steroid injection. This led to a temporary improvement, although his appetite remained poor. Another vet I spoke with also expressed doubt about the initial diagnosis. On 1st May, we proceeded with the abdominal scan. A mass was discovered, and surgery was performed immediately. The mass turned out to be an abnormally enlarged pancreas, with no issues observed in the other organs. Tragically, Kai did not survive the procedure. I strongly believe Kai was not properly assessed at the outset. An abdominal scan should have been performed earlier, particularly given his symptoms and the fact that none of our other dogs were affected—something that should have cast doubt on the leptospirosis diagnosis. I also feel that the second vet did not adequately investigate the possibility of foreign body ingestion, relying too heavily on the original notes. Additionally, I was prescribed very expensive antibiotics, which I now suspect worsened Kai’s condition, potentially irritating his throat and contributing to symptoms such as liquid diarrhoea and nausea. This experience has been incredibly distressing, and I feel that opportunities to diagnose and treat Kai correctly were missed

The nurses and most of the vets are amazing and nice. However, there is one vet in particular who has caused us distress. Emma has tried to push the agenda of putting our cat down numerous times, even conducting underhanded tests whilst 'cutting her nails', and then prompting our regular vet through computer notes to speak to us about end of life for our cat. She has no idea how our cat is at home, we're not terrible owners nor cruel but our cat hates going to the vets and is at her worst when she does. Our cat uses her trays, eats well, she's 17 so does not play anymore and is arthritic but she's family and not ready to leave us. We will know when it's time and she will tell us in her own way. So, when this Emma persists in putting her down, we have had another vet approach the conversation also, it becomes really infuriating and upsetting, my partner has been in tears multiple times. So, I would say this veterinary practice is very good and the staff, besides the exceptions, hence why 3 stars.

The reception staff were warm and welcoming when I arrived. The vet, Hugh, was very knowledgeable and I was immediately struck by his caring toward both my sick dog and myself. He called on the day following the appointment to ask how she was. I was touched by his kindness and understanding of how much I cared for my dog. Yes, I would definitely recommend this vet.

After having a very poorly cat, I was so impressed at the speed they saw him and at how good James the vet was with him. Paddington responded so well to him, and he was so patient at explaining everything to me. After the blood tests came back, James stayed over and hour after his shift had finished just to see Paddington and give him the antibiotics he needed. I'm so impressed at the level of compassion and standard of knowledge. Will always be taking my pets to see James at feldons!! Thank you so much, I genuinely believe you saved my cats life today.
