Long term medications eligible for HALF PRICE*

Below are some of the common medications that vets will often prescribe for long-term or chronic conditions. We understand that when your pet is prescribed a long term medication, it can be a lot to process. Whilst we would always recommend speaking with your veterinary team directly about any specific medication queries, the below information relates to some of the products vets will commonly prescribe for long term conditions. It is also of note that all dogs on long term medications will need regular vet checks to ensure the medicine dosage and type is appropriate for the pet’s current condition.

Amodip

Amodip is used to help manage high blood pressure (hypertension) in cats. Controlling blood pressure is important because untreated hypertension can damage vital organs such as the eyes, kidneys, heart and brain.

The flavoured chewable tablets are designed to be easy to administer and can be given directly or with a small amount of food. Cats receiving Amodip as part of a long-term treatment plan will have regular veterinary check-ups, including blood pressure monitoring, to ensure the medication continues to provide effective control.

Apoquel

Apoquel is used to help manage allergic skin conditions and ongoing itching in dogs. The medicine acts to reduce the itch and inflammation associated with allergies by targeting the production of inflammatory chemicals called cytokines. It can help keep a dog comfortable and improve their quality of life over the long term.

The tablets come in a film coated or chewable preparation and are easy to give. They can be administered with or without food.

Atopica Capsules

Atopica is used to help manage the long-term signs of atopic dermatitis (allergic skin disease) in dogs. It works by helping to control the underlying allergic response, reducing itching and inflammation and supporting healthier skin. Many dogs experience improved comfort, reduced scratching and an improved quality of life with ongoing treatment.

Atopica is given as part of a long-term management plan and dogs receiving treatment will have regular veterinary check-ups to monitor their progress and ensure the medication continues to meet their individual needs.

Caninsulin

Caninsulin is used to help manage diabetes mellitus in dogs and cats. It works by replacing the insulin that the body is unable to produce adequately, helping to regulate blood sugar levels and control the symptoms of diabetes. When diabetes is well managed, pets can enjoy a good quality of life and maintain their normal daily activities.

This medicine needs to be stored in the refrigerator and clients who administer this medicine are trained by their vet to administer injections to their pet. As part of a long-term treatment plan, regular veterinary check-ups and blood sugar monitoring are important to ensure the insulin dose remains appropriate and the pet's diabetes stays well controlled.

Cardalis

Cardalis is used to help manage congestive heart failure in dogs caused by chronic heart valve disease. It contains two active ingredients that work together to support heart function, improve circulation and help reduce the build-up of fluid associated with heart disease. It is usually given alongside other medications. The flavoured chewable tablets are easy to give and are administered as part of a long-term treatment plan.

Regular veterinary check-ups and heart scans are important to monitor the dog’s heart condition and ensure the medication continues to provide the best possible support for their individual needs.

Clomicalm

Clomicalm is used as part of a treatment programme for dogs experiencing separation-related behavioural problems. When combined with a structured behaviour modification plan, it can help reduce signs such as destructive behaviour, inappropriate toileting and distress when left alone. The tablets are designed for long-term use where appropriate and can help support positive behavioural changes over time.

Dogs receiving Clomicalm will have regular veterinary reviews to monitor their progress and ensure the treatment continues to meet their individual needs.

Cytopoint Injection

Cytopoint is used to help manage itching associated with allergic skin conditions, including atopic dermatitis, in dogs. It works by targeting one of the key signals involved in itching, helping to reduce scratching and improve skin comfort.

The injection is administered by a veterinary professional and is often repeated at regular intervals as part of a long-term treatment plan. Dogs receiving Cytopoint will have regular veterinary assessments to monitor their skin health and ensure treatment continues to meet their individual needs.

Epityl

Epityl is used to help manage epilepsy in dogs by reducing the frequency and severity of seizures. Effective seizure control can help improve your dog’s quality of life and support their ability to enjoy normal daily activities.

The flavoured tablets are designed to be easy to administer and are usually given as part of a long-term treatment plan. Dogs receiving Epityl will have regular veterinary check-ups and blood monitoring to ensure the medication remains effective and that the dose continues to meet their individual needs.

Furosemide

Furosemide is a diuretic medication used to help manage fluid build-up associated with certain heart, kidney and liver conditions in dogs and cats. It works by encouraging the kidneys to remove excess fluid from the body, helping to reduce symptoms such as breathing difficulties, swelling and discomfort caused by fluid retention.

Furosemide is often used as part of a long-term treatment plan and may be given alongside other medications. Pets receiving ongoing treatment will have regular veterinary check-ups to monitor their condition, hydration status and response to therapy.

Leventa

Leventa is used to treat hypothyroidism (an underactive thyroid gland) in dogs. By replacing the thyroid hormone that the body is unable to produce in sufficient amounts, it helps restore normal metabolism and can improve symptoms such as lethargy, weight gain, poor coat condition and reduced activity levels. The oral liquid formulation allows accurate dosing and can be tailored to your dog’s individual needs.

Dogs receiving Leventa as part of a long-term treatment plan will have regular veterinary check-ups and blood tests to monitor thyroid hormone levels and ensure the medication continues to provide effective control.

The injection is administered by a veterinary professional, typically at monthly intervals, as part of a long-term treatment plan. Dogs receiving Librela will have regular veterinary check-ups to monitor their mobility, comfort and response to treatment.

Nelio

Nelio is used to help manage certain long-term heart and kidney conditions in dogs and cats. In dogs, it helps support heart function in cases of congestive heart failure, while in cats it is used to help manage chronic kidney disease by reducing protein loss through the kidneys. The flavoured tablets are easy to administer and can be given as part of an ongoing treatment plan.

Pets receiving Nelio will have regular veterinary check-ups and monitoring to assess their heart or kidney health and ensure the medication continues to meet their individual needs.

Optimmune

Optimmune is used to help manage certain long-term immune-mediated eye conditions in dogs, including dry eye (keratoconjunctivitis sicca) and chronic superficial keratitis (pannus). It works by helping to reduce inflammation and support normal tear production, improving eye comfort and helping to protect the surface of the eye. The ointment is applied directly to the affected eye(s) and is often used as part of a long-term treatment plan.

Dogs receiving Optimmune will require regular veterinary check-ups to monitor their eye health and ensure treatment continues to provide effective control of their condition.

Pexion

Pexion is used to help manage idiopathic epilepsy in dogs by reducing the frequency of seizures. For many dogs, effective seizure control can improve day-to-day wellbeing and help them enjoy a better quality of life.
