Lead Veterinary Surgeon

I’ve been the lead vet here since August 2017. I graduated from Lisbon Technical University's Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in 2004, then completed an internship at Hannover University's School of Veterinary Medicine before starting to work in practice in the UK. Over the years I’ve developed an interest in soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery, and in December 2016, obtained the BSAVA's Post Graduate Certificate in Small Animal Surgery. I’m passionate about research into veterinary medicine and surgery and strive to offer the best advice and care available to my patients. Outside of work, I live in Lincolnshire with my wife, who is also a veterinary surgeon, and my two daughters.

The vet we saw was very abrupt and not understanding regarding an issue with our pet.

I have always valued the care my pets receive at Medivet Bretton. I have however noticed the increase in costs. The cost only becomes apparent at the time of payment. During this visit, I had my pet checked over for peace of mind. Was advised on a non medicinal method to help the healing process. The appointment lasted a few minutes and I was charged £51. I suspect the follow up in a week's time will be the same. All the staff are truly wonderful, so this remark is regarding the cost of routine appointments, and is not a critique of the care received.

I got the impression that the surgeon there didn't value life at all (human life as well as that of cats). They don't offer payment plans for surgery so they couldn't operate on my cat anyway but at one point the guy made an analogy that implied that he wished he could euthanise his own child...(perhaps it was just poorly worded?). My cat did die in the end as it was impossible for me to fund an operation in time to save him. When I asked if they could help refrigerate him or knew anyone who could, they were surprisingly unhelpful with that as well.

Well organised front of desk, all staff are polite, friendly and efficient. All major credit cards are accepted (inc AMEX). Feliways are plugged in everywhere which was great to see, I especially liked the sectioned off dedicated waiting area for smaller pets and the rack/shelving for customers to be able to put their carriers on high off the ground and they also have blankets to cover over the carriers to help manage stress levels for felines and other smaller pets. Treatment rooms are a generous size. The gravel car park could be improved - when it rains it is muddy, uneven and has potholes!

1) The gravel car park could be improved - when it rains it is muddy, uneven and has potholes!
2) What about "calming" sounds/music for felines and smaller pets in the dedicated smaller waiting area - wouldn't cost the earth and would contribute towards making a big difference in how smaller pets are feeling.

My own vet was not working … his receptionist phoned Medivet and made the appointment for my dog. Medivet phoned and brought the appointment forward … the vet was very reassuring and put my mind at rest… it is a lovely practice and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it
