Emma Bestow

Partner and Veterinary Surgeon

I qualified from Liverpool Vet School in 1996 and worked in various practices in Yorkshire and London before settling at West Kingsdown in 2013. I decided to become a vet at a very young age and pursued my dream relentlessly! I enjoy all aspects of the job but have a particular interest in soft tissue surgery. Outside of work I enjoy running and have completed several half marathons for charity. I also love cooking and travelling. In my spare time I volunteer with a wonderful charity called Streetvet which brings free veterinary care to the pets of the homeless. I’ve been married nearly 20 years and have twin teenagers and 2 tabby cats.

I'm the newest vet to join the team, officially starting in February 2023, but have been working for Medivet ever since graduating from Bristol University in 2021. My favourite thing about being a vet is performing surgeries. I love cats and often foster cats and kittens to socialise them before they find their forever homes. My hobbies include figure skating and other winter sports like skiing.

I am the Deputy Head Veterinary Nurse here at West Kingsdown. I have worked in the veterinary industry since I was 16, starting off as a Kennel Assistant working my way up to qualify as an RVN. I was a Patient Care Assistant then a Student Veterinary Nurse, with Medivet West Kingsdown being the branch I trained at. I am a clinical coach meaning I am also qualified to help our student veterinary nurses become RVNs, helping them through their training and supporting them in practice. I have a keen interest in nurse clinics so I love seeing all your friendly faces and of course your beautiful pets! In the future, I’d love to complete a certificate in anaesthesia to develop my understanding more as it’s an area of nursing that I’m passionate about. I am also part of a flyball team. I regularly train to compete with Lottie who is one of my two greyhound crossbreeds. Both Lottie and Louie were rescued as puppies in a very broken and poorly state. At home, I also have a Cornish Rex called Mia and Socks who is a ginger moggy.

I am a second year Veterinary Nurse student. I have known since I was young that I wanted to work with animals, and I am so glad to get the opportunity to work with the team at Medivet West Kingsdown. My favourite part of nursing is anaesthesia, I am hoping when I am qualified to look into extra certificates into surgical nursing. At home I have a staffy called Disney who I rescued back in 2015 and my very own naughty tortie Nutmeg, who I fostered last year and she never left!

I also hold a teaching qualification and assist with the training of our student Veterinary Nurses which I thoroughly enjoy. I am currently studying towards a Certificate in Feline Nursing. I have keen interests in emergency nursing, anaesthesia and radiography and hope to pursue further education in these areas in the future. I am married to my husband Adrian and have a daughter, Isla, who was born in 2021. I own 3 cats, Desmond, Pete and Cilla who are all rescue cats. Outside of work I enjoy baking, travelling and spending time with my family.

I am a first year Veterinary Nurse at West Kingsdown. I have been working for Medivet for 2 and a half years and have recently moved to West Kingsdown to begin my training. I have been an animal lover since a very young age and currently have 2 cats, 2 guinea pigs and a conure, most of which have been rescued from work! My favourite part of nursing is getting to give your pets TLC during their time with us. I have a particular interest in feline and canine behaviour and nutrition which I would like to look into more when I am qualified.

Patient Care Assistant

I am the new Patient Care Assistant here at West Kingsdown, soon hoping to become a fellow Student Vet Nurse. I’ve always had such a strong passion and love for animals since I was little and my many many many pets over the years prove that. I have done a lot of work at rescue centres and studied level 2 Animal Management at College. I love coming home from work and either hanging out and playing with my doggos or playing some video games with my friends. I am very active and love going out and spending time with friends and family whilst also appreciating a nice quiet night in when needed. I currently have two dogs, Chewbacca (Brussels Griffon) and Bob Marley (Yorkshire Terrier) as well as a cat called Narla and my personal favourite, my snake called Noodle (Western Hognose).

Took my dog in for her 6 monthly health check, everybody is so nice in there and encouarged my dog to go into the treatment room as she flatly refused for the first time in her life, the vet was very thorough and checked her over and gave her a clean bill of health. The vet changed her flea and worming treatment as she has had a couple of ticks lately so I am veru impressed with the service my dog received well done Medivet

A distressing experience Involving the practice manager, Emma Bestow. - Avoid. I brought my pet, Poppy, in for a consultation, and the vet recommended some eye drops. I mentioned that I believed we already had the medication at home, but I was unable to confirm with my wife at the time due to poor signal inside the building. As a result, I decided to proceed with the purchase. However, upon returning to my car just minutes later, I was able to call my wife, who confirmed that we already had the same eye drops at home. I immediately went back inside literally within minutes to explain the situation and request a refund. To my surprise, I was told that because I had left the premises a refund could not be issued. I politely explained that I disagreed with this policy, particularly as I had not gone far and was back very quickly. The receptionist consulted with someone and then informed me that a credit could be added to my account. I reiterated that I did not want credit I simply wanted a refund and asked to speak to a manager. While the receptionist remained polite and appeared to be trying to help, the situation escalated unnecessarily when Emma Bestow came to speak with me. From the moment she approached, her demeanour was defensive and dismissive. Rather than listening to my concerns, she questioned my integrity, spoke over me, and made it clear that a refund would not be considered. She offered only a credit and repeatedly cut me off when I tried to ask questions. When I pointed out her rudeness, she accused me of being rude instead. Her exact words were along the lines of “credit or take the drugs,” which I found both shocking and condescending. She then instructed the receptionist to apply credit to my account and walked away without further discussion. This experience was incredibly upsetting and frankly humiliating. I have never been made to feel so small or disrespected in my life. I have been a loyal customer of Medivet and did not expect to be treated this way especially by a practice manager, who should be setting a far better example for their team. To make matters worse, I have now received an email stating that the credit has been removed from my account, meaning I am not only out of pocket but also left without the product I paid for. This experience has left me feeling extremely disappointed, let down, and, quite honestly, robbed. I visit the vet to care for a beloved member of my family not to be spoken down to or treated with disregard. I will be sharing my experience with friends, family, and members of the local community. Visiting the vet is already a stressful experience this situation made it needlessly worse.

We have had our Furbabies under the care medivet for some years now, and cannot fault the treatment. They are friendly, caring and generally lovely people. At the very worst times, they arenso compassionate too. Their monthly plan is so useful to have too, as all flea treatment, worm treatment and boosters are included, making looking after your babies easier. We have no plans to change vets any time soon. Tha k you for everything Medivet
