After qualifying from Edinburgh University in 1996 I worked for a short period in mixed practice in South Yorkshire before concentrating on small animal practice. I see all types of cases, and I have an interest in medical cases. I have spent over twenty years as an advisor to the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association and enjoy the work we do for a local dog rescue charity. At home I enjoy spending time with my family and walking our dog Mollie.

I have received conflicting advice from different vets at the practice, and my most recent appointment felt very inconsistent with previous guidance. I left the appointment feeling unreassured and uncertain about Oscar’s care plan. Reflecting on an earlier visit, I was advised to bathe him—despite severe skin allergy symptoms—using baby shampoo. As dogs have a very different skin pH to humans, I found this advice inappropriate and concerning.
In addition, I have experienced administrative issues with the pet plan. I was double charged and, despite sending several emails, I received no response and the funds were not returned. I ultimately had to resolve this through my bank’s direct debit process. To date, I have not received any correspondence or apology regarding this matter, which has been extremely disappointing.
I am also concerned that the flea and worm treatments provided do not appear to have been appropriately tailored to Oscar. He was prescribed chicken-flavoured tablets despite being on a strict fish-based diet, and was given tablets intended for small dogs with instructions to increase the dose. This has further affected my confidence in the level of care and attention being provided.
Most recently, I brought Oscar in due to significant bleeding from his ear and a lump that had changed in both size and colour. No diagnosis was offered, nor was a second opinion sought within the practice. Instead, I was advised to seek a referral to a dermatologist in Kenilworth, at a cost of £250 per appointment. I find it concerning that no diagnostic steps or potential treatment plan could be provided within the practice itself. This has left me feeling unsupported and without reassurance during what is clearly a worrying situation.
Overall, the combination of inconsistent clinical advice, unresolved administrative errors, and lack of clear diagnostic direction has resulted in a loss of confidence in the practice.
