I want to make this clear it's NOT the staff, but the business itself.
Eagle vets has always been known as a local family friendly vets and we have been a customer for over 20 years and they have catered for 4 of our dogs through various types of health and multiple surgeries. It's quite a way out for us approx a 40 minute trip but has always been worth it for the experience.
Since Medivet have taken over things have slowly gone downhill to the point we are considering moving to a different company of vets.
Medivet have stripped all personality out of the building with their recent "makeover" it's gone from a friendly welcoming entrance where the kids love to come along and see the other dogs and the cat and dog picture walls with their silly faces to a clinical looking hospital waiting room entrance. My daughter instantly got really upset and thought something must wrong with our dog because it looked like a hospital this time we entered and assumed she needed doggy doctors to help her. First impressions go a long way for initial impressions as well as first impressions after big overhaul and for an adult myself and a 7 year old to both have a very negative feeling says a lot.
Another big change since Medivet have taken over is the biggest one for me. If we ever had any big bills we would pass over our insurance details and it would be dealt with and has been done on multiple occasions for example epilepsy seizures and a pyrometra emergency operation. No issues what so ever, the insurance just calls me asks me to pay the deposit and they send the funds to the vet. No not any more, no communication that it's changed, nothing. I take my sick dog in for cancerous tumors for surgery removal and assumed it's all the same as before and told they can't do it and Medivet requires payment up feont or it won't go ahead. To expect a £1700 bill to be paid up front or the dog doesn't get the help it needs when for 20 odd years it's never been this way is not on especially when there has been 0 issues over the entire history and no communication the policy has changed is extremely unfair especially in times of stress with our dog. Luckily for us we have savings I could sort out but I feel sorry for how many families in less fortunate financial situations have been caught out by this.
Another issue is prices went up which was expected when companies take over but it's just not stopped going up over the last couple of years.
So it's gone from a family friendly affordable vet that's very welcoming from staff to the practice itself to an expensive white washed wall clinical experience.
The only positive thing I can say about this place since it has been taken over is the staff are still lovely and attentive. It's such a shame because it's also a 40 minute trip and I just wonder more and more why we travel this far for something that's completely different to what we want and have been used out of a veterinary practice. It just makes sense to stay local and not go miles out of our way when the core values have been stripped
