Elena Blanco Bartolome

Lead Veterinary Surgeon

Elena graduated from the University of Zaragoza in 2021. During university and after graduation Elena spent a lot of time gaining experience in the operating theatre with her dad, who is also a vet. Elena moved to the UK three years ago and she has been part of the Medivet Redbourn family since then and becoming the Lead Veterinary Surgeon almost a year ago. The best part of her job is coming to work to an amazing team of vets and nurses and getting to know all the animals in the neighborhood. Elena is a dedicated veterinary surgeon that enjoys treating a variety of species. She is specially keen on surgery and she is currently doing a Certificate in Small Animal Surgery. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, climbing and spending time with her dog Dobby.

I joined Medivet in 2013 after graduating from the Royal Veterinary College, and in 2014 I began working at Medivet Hemel Hempstead Risedale Road, where I later became a Partner. In April 2026, I was delighted to expand my partnership to include both Medivet Redbourn Priory and Harpenden. I recently completed a postgraduate certificate in small animal dentistry, an area I’m especially passionate about because of the huge difference good dental care can make to a pet’s comfort, health, and overall quality of life. At home, I have a small menagerie of my own, including my two lovely cats, Thomas and Layla, who both found their way to Risedale as strays and quickly became part of my family. One of the things I love most about working at Medivet is the people — both the wonderful teams I’m lucky to work alongside across our three practices, and the fantastic clients and pets we meet every day. Veterinary medicine has shaped me enormously, both professionally and personally, and I find it incredibly rewarding to care for my patients while building lasting, trusted relationships with their owners.

I graduated from Kyungpook National University in South Korea in 2005. During my final years of study, I completed an externship programme in Equine Dentistry and Equine Reproduction at Texas A&M University in the USA. I obtained a Master’s degree in Control of Infectious Diseases in Animals from the Royal Veterinary College in 2006. I became a Member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2007. I joined Medivet in 2007 and became a Partner at Medivet Hemel Hempstead Risedale Rd in 2009. Over the years, I have participated in various surgical training courses and workshops, and I obtained a Postgraduate Certificate in Small Animal Surgery in 2014. My passion lies in small animal surgery, alongside continuously learning, updating my skills, and mentoring new graduate vets. In 2026, I took on additional Partnerships at Medivet Redbourn Priory and Medivet Harpenden, and now work across all three clinics. Over the years, I have rescued many cats in need through my workplace, and I currently live with four cats. I am truly grateful to be able to practise care and compassion for all my patients, their families, and the wider community through my vocation. I thoroughly enjoy working with my wonderful colleagues and learning from them. I cherish every moment with my patients and their human companions.

Patient Care Assistant

Jo is a patient care assistant, with a passion for helping animals. Her career in veterinary care began as a childhood fascination with animals. She credits a great deal of this passion to her Nanny’s encouragement towards animal care and her love and care for all animals. Jo graduated from Teesside University in 2023 with a Bachelor's of Science in Animal Science and Welfare. After graduating, she went on to pursue her love for horses at the Mount St John Equestrian Stud and this is where she found herself wanting to work in the veterinary field. Having always loved dogs, cats and other small mammals, Jo began working for Medivet in November 2024 as a patient care assistant. Jo is a dedicated PCA who has loved her time at Medivet and is keen to continue learning and broadening her experience in the clinic. Jo loves meeting all the local patients who come to visit us and takes pride in making sure they have a positive experience with us. At home, Jo has a ragdoll named Roo and looks after a horse called Rueben. In her free time, Jo can be found at the gym, with friends, hiking, out riding or cosy at home gaming on her PC with Roo.

Student Veterinary Nurse

I have been with Medivet since October 2023, I started my training to become a Student Veterinary Nurse this year. I enjoy interacting with our clients and their pets, outside of work you'll either find me attempting to socialise with friends or having many long naps. At home I have two cats, Prim and Posy who are always keeping me on my toes with their mischievous behaviour, that I rescued when they were kittens from the Blue Cross.
