I took my cat Minnie to this practice as an emergency because he had a urinary blockage. They attempted to catheterise him but were unable to complete the procedure. Instead, they removed some urine directly from his bladder to keep him stable long enough for me to transfer him to an emergency hospital, where further treatment was still required. Despite the catheterisation being unsuccessful, I was charged nearly £1,100. When I arrived at the hospital and explained what had happened, the receptionist immediately questioned why I had been charged the full amount when the main procedure had not been completed successfully. I understand that the practice is entitled to charge for the emergency examination, medication, sedation, equipment used, the attempted catheterisation and the temporary removal of urine. However, I do not believe it was reasonable to charge the full price as though Minnie had been successfully catheterised and unblocked when he had not. This was already an extremely distressing emergency, and the lack of clarity surrounding the charges made the experience worse. I would strongly advise anyone using this practice to ask for a fully itemised estimate beforehand and to check carefully whether they are being charged for procedures that were attempted or procedures that were actually completed. I am deeply disappointed with how this was handled and believe the bill should have reflected the treatment Minnie genuinely received rather than a successful procedure that did not take place.
