Meet our Partner, James Sabin

I graduated from the University of Queensland in 1998 and spent five years working in mixed dairy practice in Australia. I came to England for what was meant to be two years in 2004, met my wife, and I’m still here! In 2012, I attained membership of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists by examination in veterinary behaviour. Although the growth of the clinic means I no longer have time to carry out behavioural consultations, I use that knowledge every day — including with my own children. I was awarded a General Practitioner Certificate in Ophthalmology in 2019, followed by a Postgraduate Certificate in Small Animal Ophthalmology in 2020. I take on ophthalmic referrals and perform a range of ophthalmic surgical procedures using our operating microscope. I am also an Official Controls Veterinarian, which allows me to issue animal health and export certificates for pets. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my wife and our two children, as well as getting out on my bike.

Your Vet in Sidcup

Medivet Sidcup is your local vet for the day-to-day, and our branch partner holds further training in ophthalmology. That means eye conditions, from a red eye that's been worrying you to a cloudy eye you've only just noticed, can often be looked at properly here rather than referred on.

Jane told her gran she wanted to be a vet at the age of 6. She feels very lucky that she is a Veterinary Surgeon. She graduated from Cambridge in 2002 and since then has been looking after pets in the South East. She loves seeing puppies and kittens come in for their first practice cuddle but also likes helping creaking joints and giving older pets their spring back. She began working within the Dartford region as a ‘floating’ vet on the Medivet Graduate Programme in October 2020 before joining the team at Halfway Street in June 2021. Chloe currently enjoys the variety and challenges of general practice and is keen to pursue her interest in both dermatology and behavioural medicine in the near future. Chloe is also an official controls veterinarian which means that she can issue animal health certificates and export certificates for pets. At home, Chloe is 'Mum' to a 1-year-old bouncy Dobermann, Arnie, who keeps her on her toes! Kyley Aikenhead

Head Veterinary Nurse

Kyley joined a private family run veterinary practice in 2003 and qualified in 2008. Here she was exposed to a wide variety of cases including pregnancies, cesarians, wildlife, RSPCA court cases and charity work, as well as the lovely routine cases of the practice. Kyley developed a passion for those pets less fortunate and enjoyed many hand rear and critical cases that she nursed at home – ranging from puppies and kittens to ducks, wild birds, hedgehogs and fox cubs. After 7 years as a Head Nurse she left to join Medivet Sidcup in 2014 and loves her role as Head Nurse at this branch. She has watched the branch grow from one vet and three nurses, to four vets (two part-time) and five nurses and a receptionist. She has a great sense of pride in how the practice has developed, and the level of care that all of the staff are passionate to strive for. Outside of work her main focus is her 6 year old son, her rescue dog, her two horses whom she bred 16 years ago and her rescue pony.

I am always happy with the care provided to my dogs from the practice but unfortunately I have never had an appointment and been seen on time. This time we were almost 1/2 an hour past our appointment time. I could understand if there was an emergency situation but from what I could see in the waiting room the animals there were for routine treatments. As nice as the reception team are they also don't communicate any reason for the delay whilst waiting which would help as there is only so much you can do with a puppy who just wants to be out of there.

We recently took our dog to this practice. The vet was very patient, kind and thorough throughout the consultation. They listened carefully to our concerns and took the time to explain everything clearly, which we really appreciated. However, we were very disappointed with what happened during the blood test. Our dog's neck had to be clipped for the blood sample, but when we got home we noticed several areas where the skin had been nicked during clipping (please see the attached photos). We were quite shocked, as we don't understand how this could happen with electric clippers. While the cuts appear to be superficial, they have caused unnecessary discomfort to our dog and left us feeling concerned. We hope the practice will review its clipping technique and equipment to help prevent this from happening to other pets in the future. Overall, the veterinary care itself was excellent, but this aspect of the experience was disappointing.

Easy to get appointment at suitable time. Staff welcoming and friendly. Vet was very good with my anxious pooch and put her at ease. She did a thorough check, gave good advice and listened to my concerns. I would highly recommend this practice.

I can’t thank Medivet Halfway Street Sidcup enough. I was worried to get my 10 year old chihuahua teeth done but Lachmi, the lovely vet we saw, did a consultation and put me at ease and then removed his teeth a week later. He bounced back so quickly and is much better. The Reception staff and other vets were also great. Thank you so much for looking after Jimmy and me!!
