Medivet Sidcup Halfway St

I feel compelled to share our experience with Medivet Halfway Street because what happened to our dog Buddy has been extremely upsetting for our whole family. Buddy became seriously unwell and stopped eating. We trusted Medivet to investigate what was wrong and to treat him appropriately, but despite his ongoing problems, things continued to deteriorate. Most concerningly, Buddy was given an anti-sickness medication at a dose which we have subsequently been told was an overdose. He was also kept on anti-acid medication which, as we later discovered when we saw another vet, could itself have been contributing to his nausea and lack of appetite. We are extremely concerned that this medication was not stopped sooner. A specialist ultrasound/scan was also carried out, but despite this, we were then discussing the possibility of sedating Buddy and putting a camera down his throat. We were left feeling that more invasive investigations were being considered when there may have been a much simpler explanation for why he was so unwell. Eventually, we took Buddy to another vet, Sandra, and the difference was unbelievable. She took the time to look at everything carefully and immediately considered whether the medication could be making him feel sick. She stopped the anti-acid medication, and this made a huge difference to Buddy. His appetite returned and he has since improved more than he had done for a long time. After everything Buddy had been through, we were left asking ourselves why this possibility hadn’t been identified sooner. We have also had considerable difficulty obtaining Buddy’s full medical records and are still waiting for documentation, including the report from his specialist scan. This has added to our frustration at an already incredibly stressful time. There were times when we genuinely thought we were going to lose our beloved dog. To know that something as straightforward as medication may have been contributing to how poorly he felt is extremely upsetting. I cannot comment on the intentions or competence of individual members of staff, but I can say that our experience left us feeling let down, distressed and without confidence in the care Buddy was receiving. We have now moved all of our animals away from Medivet Halfway Street. Thankfully, we found Sandra, whose compassion, thoroughness and genuine care for Buddy restored our faith that he could get better. I would strongly recommend that anyone whose pet is seriously unwell and not improving considers getting a second opinion. We only wish we had done so sooner.
